The Signs of the Times (30): Jerusalem
‘He said: “Son of man, this is the place of My throne and the place for the soles of My feet. This is where I will live among the Israelites forever.’
Ezekiel 43:7 (NIV)
The PLO (Palestinian Liberation Organization) has been appointed by the United Nations as the representative of the ‘Palestinian People’. The PLO was established and exists until today for the sole purpose of destroying the Jewish State, and does not seek peaceful coexistence. The two-state solution is a curse to the mind of the PLO.
The Palestinian National Charter denies the legitimacy of the Jewish State of Israel, rejects every historical link between the Jewish people and the land, and is a public supporter of violently driving out all Jews to free ‘Palestine’. This hatred towards Jews (and Christians as well) is now being rewarded.
Mahmoud Abbas has never condemned terrorism. In his speech at the United Nations he denied Israel the right to prevent terrorist attacks from the Gaza Strip, and he declared Israel the aggressor. Never once did he acknowledge Israel’s legitimacy. While they could have been living together in peace for a very long time now. But their leaders could only see one solution: sweep Israel from the map and drive the Jews into the Mediterranean Sea. They rejected the UN plan in 1947 right away. They immediately attacked the new State of Israel in 1948, the war that caused the ‘refugee problem’. They attacked Israel in 1967, and again in 1973. If Israel had not been ahead of them, it would have happened in 1956 as well. They rejected every peace proposal from prime ministers such as Barak and Ehud Olmert in 2000 and 2007. They consistently support Hezbollah and Hamas, and fire missiles at Israeli civilians. And we can go on and on.
The resolution adopted in November of 2012 does (once again) not recognize the right of Israel’s sovereignty over Jerusalem and wants (yet again) to return to the 1967 borders. This would give the ‘Palestinians’ control over the entire Old City of Jerusalem including Mount Zion, the Mount of Olives, the Jewish Quarter, the Wailing Wall, etc.
Under Islamic rule there was no interest in Jerusalem among the ‘Palestinians’ for 1400 years. Only when the Jews began to return to the ‘Promised Land’ in the twentieth century, did the Arabs gain interest. Jordan illegally occupied the West Bank from 1948-1967, but even then did the ‘Palestinians’ not claim Jerusalem.
Mahmoud Abbas has stated multiple times that he would get rid of the Jews in all future Palestinian territory, including East-Jerusalem. ‘Ethnic cleansing’ is what this should be called. The Nazi’s called this ‘Judenrein machen’.
This will happen if the present-day situation would be going back to the situation under Jordanian occupation from 1948-1967. All Jews were expelled from the Old City and dozens of Jewish homes and synagogues were destroyed and desecrated, some were made into public toilets. Jewish and Christian ‘holy places’ alike will no longer have the protection that they have now under the State of Israel.
But the Lord has an eternal Covenant with the city of Jerusalem. Not with the ‘heavenly’ Jerusalem, but with the earthly Jerusalem is what Psalm 132:13-14 says: ‘…For the Lord has chosen Zion, He has desired it for His dwelling, saying, “This is My resting place for ever and ever; here I will sit enthroned, for I have desired it…’
Many people are afraid of the future. Will the turmoil in the world lead to World War III? Or is there still hope? What do the ancient prophecies of the Bible teach us? Are we at the beginning of the end of this world? Or are we approaching a new beginning? Could Israel be a sign of hope? In this new series Rev. Willem Glashouwer looks at 52 of the many signs of the times that are mentioned in the Bible. The English edition of ‘The Signs of the Times’ will be published by Christians for Israel International soon.
