Weekly Update: The existential war to eliminate the Jewish people

editor - 24 June 2021

The cease-fire that brought the recent fighting with Hamas to an end has not ended the conflict.

On the contrary, it seems that Hamas has achieved major victory both in terms of global public opinion as well as gaining increasing support amongst Palestinians in Israel and the West Bank where Hamas is now much more popular than Fatah. Hamas – which is a branch of the Muslim Brotherhood – is resourced and financed directly by Iran, that is influencing the region both directly and through its proxies like Hamas in Gaza and Hezbollah in Lebanon.

The core objective of all these players is to achieve Islamic hegemony in the region, which involves suppression of all divergent opinions and “obliteration” of the Jewish State of Israel.

Whether Hamas succeeds in gaining a foothold in Jerusalem and Judea and Samaria will in part depend on what policies the new Israeli government will adopt, and how Western governments like the US and EU will respond.

Simultaneously criticism of Israel is growing globally, as well as an alarming rise in antisemitism.

As Christians we should be very concerned about these developments. The hatred of the Jewish people is a sign of growing anti-Christian spirit in the world. Hatred of the Jews is, after all, hatred of the God of Israel.

We need to speak out on behalf of the Jewish people, and pray ever more fervently for the peace of Jerusalem, and the coming of the King of Kings who will reign from Jerusalem.

New government, new threats

Caroline Glick writes: “Hamas’s clear influence over Israeli Arabs brings home the fact that a Palestinian state in Judea, Samaria and Jerusalem would foment Israel’s destruction. If the Hamas state in Gaza can foment anti-Semitic pogroms throughout Israel, a Hamas state in Judea, Samaria and Jerusalem, along with Gaza, will represent a threat to the country that no government will be able to successfully surmount.”

Origins of the Gaza War 2021

Dore Gold writes: “The Hamas war against Israel has ideological roots. The 1988 Hamas Covenant stated that ‘Israel will exist and will continue to exist until Islam obliterates it.’ The Covenant adds, ‘There is no solution for the Palestinian question except through Jihad.’”

The US-Backed Palestinian Human Rights Violations

Khaled Abu Toameh writes: “Abbas appears to be emboldened by the Biden administration’s decision to resume unconditional financial aid to the Palestinians. This no-strings-attached money is being supplied without even a stipulation that the PA put an end to human rights violations and assaults on public freedoms
. It is hardly surprising, then, that the most recent public opinion poll showed a dramatic surge in the popularity of Hamas among Palestinians. What should be surprising — and disturbing — is that the Western world is directly aiding and abetting this bloody shift of allegiance.”

Scripture for the week: Psalm 105

Give praise to the Lord, proclaim his name;
make known among the nations what he has done.
2 Sing to him, sing praise to him;
tell of all his wonderful acts.
3 Glory in his holy name;
let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice.
4 Look to the Lord and his strength;
seek his face always.

5 Remember the wonders he has done,
his miracles, and the judgments he pronounced,
6 you his servants, the descendants of Abraham,
his chosen ones, the children of Jacob.
7 He is the Lord our God;
his judgments are in all the earth.

8 He remembers his covenant forever,
the promise he made, for a thousand generations,
9 the covenant he made with Abraham,
the oath he swore to Isaac.
10 He confirmed it to Jacob as a decree,
to Israel as an everlasting covenant:
11 “To you I will give the land of Canaan
as the portion you will inherit.”
